Facebook has become an important part of our life and more people are joining the social networking site everyday. The company knows how crucial new emerging markets are where it can still add millions of users. And thus, it has quietly released a new app called the Facebook Lite. The app has been designed especially to work on low-end Android smartphones and run without any hiccups on 2G networks.
According to TC, the app is based on SnapTu, an app which the company bought to make Facebook accessible on basic phones. One of the best things of Facebook Lite is that is just 252 KB in size, thus making is really easy to download and install of entry-level Android smartphones.
Currently, Facebook Lite has been made available in a few Asian and African countries which include Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. Released on 20th January, the app already has over 10,000 downloads and a nice rating of 4.6 out of 5.
