SwiftKey acquired by Microsoft

Update: It’s Official. SwiftKey has been bought by Microsoft and the announcement was made via a blogpost on app’s blog.

I have always loved the widely popular keyboard app, SwiftKey and have been using it for years now. And today, FT is reporting that tech giant Microsoft might have acquired it from its makers, Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock. According to the report, the deal is worth $250 million and if this deal goes through, SwiftKey will join Wunderlist and Sunrise Calender which are the other 2 applications which Microsoft purchased in the year 2015.

SwiftKey is loved by many for the features it packs in including accurate predictive text, emoji prediction, customization using various themes and the autocorrection. I really hope that Microsoft doesn’t eventually kill the app like it did with Sunrise Calendar since the keyboard app is said to have over 300 million users.

Microsoft’s plan with  app is unknown but it might just use it to improve the existing keyboard on its Windows Phone devices. What’s your take on this deal? Which 3rd party keyboard do you use?
