WhatsApp and Gmail cross 1 Billion users milestone


One Billion! That’s quite a number and as of today, Facebook’s WhatApp Messenger and Google’s Gmail and  app have One Billion users using the respective services.

Google broke the news at its parent company, Alphabet’s Q4 2015 earning call while WhatsApp took to a blogpost.

WhatsApp said:

Every day, our team continues to work to improve WhatsApp’s speed, reliability, security and simplicity. We’re excited to see how far we’ve come. But now, it’s back to work – because we still have another 6 billion people to get on WhatsApp, and a long way left to go.

Founder Jan Koum shared a few numbers related to the app in an infographics and the numbers are huge.


Gmail was in a better mood and celebrated the milestone with a little dance.


Mark Zuckerburg took on to Facebook and congratulated the WhatsApp team and all the users who helped in reaching the milestone.
